(No) Connection – Media Artistic Experiments for New Forms of Community
An exhibition by students, graduates, and guests of the master’s program in International Media Cultural Work (IMC) at the h_da Media Campus, in collaboration with the Museum Schloss Fechenbach in Dieburg.
Connection is rarely immediate. It is shaped by distance, language, memory, and by technological systems that promise proximity while often producing new forms of separation. (No) Connection – Media Artistic Experiments for New Forms of Community begins from this tension: the desire to be with others alongside the phenomenon of disruption and fragmentation within mediated environments.
Bringing together media artistic works by students and graduates of the Media Campus of Hochschule Darmstadt in Dieburg, the exhibition unfolds across participatory installations, sound works, audiovisual environments, and immersive formats. These works explore how relationships emerge through fragments, gestures, voices, memories, and shared spatial experiences while addressing themes of identity, migration, and collective memory.
Central to the exhibition is a shift from observation to participation. Visitors are invited to listen, move, interact, and respond, becoming part of dynamic situations that evolve through their presence. Connection is not simply represented, but temporary, contingent, and shaped through engagement.
Young Talent Award for Media Culture – Town of Dieburg
At the end of the exhibition, the town of Dieburg presents again the Young Talent Award for Media Culture to the most outstanding media art projects in the exhibition. Besides the votes of a four-person jury, visitors to the exhibition can also vote for their favorite piece. Visitor votes account for 40 per cent of the overall evaluation. The winners will be announced by the Mayor of Dieburg, Frank Haus, during the exhibition’s finissage on July 12.
