B.A. Animation and Game

A+G Projects

In our degree program, the focus is on projects. Or more specifically, project-based learning. We believe that the best way to learn game development is by actually building games. Same for Animations. Instead of relying only on traditional lectures, students spend a large part of their studies working hands-on: experimenting, prototyping, collaborating, and turning ideas into playable experiences or fascinating animations.

That’s why projects are at the core of the program. Starting in the second semester, students work in teams every semester to create games, prototypes, and interactive experiences. These projects simulate real production environments, where programmers, artists, designers, and producers collaborate to bring a project from concept to completion.

Many of these projects become much more than just coursework. They grow into strong portfolio pieces, are showcased at festivals and industry events, and some even go on to be officially released on platforms like Steam or the Nintendo eShop, winning awards and reaching players around the world.

You can explore a selection of these released projects on this page: Published Games

Semester Projects

From the second semester onward, students develop team-based projects each semester. Projects are structured similar to a real game studio, with roles such as:

  • Programmers – implement gameplay systems and technology
  • Artists – create characters, environments and animations
  • Game Designers – design mechanics, levels and player experience
  • Producers – organize the team and manage the project

Students can choose the role they want to focus on and develop their skills over time.
Master’s students often join as Directors, supporting the teams with guidance and feedback.

Bachelor Projects

The Bachelor Project is the final and largest project of the program.

Student teams develop a complete game, animation or interactive experience, combined with research and documentation. The focus is not only on production, but also on concept development, experimentation and scientific reflection.

Research Projects

In addition to teaching projects, professors collaborate with students and industry partners on research projects in game technology and interactive media. These projects explore topics such as:

  • new game technologies
  • gamification for other industries
  • experimental prototypes and interaction concepts

Project Showcase Exhibition ("The Finals")

At the end of every semester, all projects are presented at the FINALS, a two-day exhibition on campus.

Students showcase their games, animations and research to:

  • industry professionals
  • companies and partners
  • alumni and visitors

The Finalsis are a highlight of each semester and an opportunity to test projects, get feedback, and connect with the industry.

Why Project-Based Learning?

  • real studio-like teamwork
  • practical production experience
  • strong portfolio development
  • industry visibility and networking
  • creative ownership of projects
