Werkschau
Art Exhibition 2026: 23–24 July
The faculty of Media is celebrating its third inter-degree programme Werkschau on 23–24 July 2026. Over two jam-packed days, visitors can look forward to all sorts of work and projects from the past academic year. As well as the Werkschau itself, the Werkschau offers plenty of opportunities to explore the Media Campus, swap anecdotes from recent semesters, party, dance and bring the summer term to a close together. The theme: Werkschau meets party.
On 24 July, we’ll be celebrating the end of the Werkschau and the semester together with a campus party. From 6.00 pm, the stage at the Werkschau centre will become the centre of attention, featuring the bands error, Elena Rud and Jovan. A basic selection of drinks will be provided, and two food trucks will be on hand to cater for your culinary needs.
All events as part of the Werkschau are free to attend. No prior registration is required. We hope you have a great time at the Mediencampus and look forward to sharing many experiences with you!
Do you have any questions about the Werkschau or individual programme items? The team behind the Werkschau can be contacted at kommunikation.fbmd@h-da.de and is here to answer your questions!

error
error is a German-language indie pop act who straddles the roles of poet, critic, social commentator and outsider. With warm guitars, driving drums and analogue synths, he creates a danceable backdrop for poetic lyrics exploring the themes of Gen Z’s lives, personal experiences and social tensions. His songs feel intimate, edgy and accessible all at once. In short: the perfect soundtrack for the Media Campus!
error will be performing on 24 July from 9.00 pm to 10.00 pm on the stage at the exhibition center in front of the Auditorium.

Elena Rud
Elena Rud navigates a world of outbursts, despair and self-deprecating humour. In their songs, the Munich-based indie band explore mental health, body positivity and queerness, packaging it all into danceable new wave indie with a punk-infused 80s flair.
The charm of Elena’s prominent, raw voice takes centre stage in this pop music in the style of the latest German wave. Her shows are self-assured, empowering and like an open therapy session on stage. Let’s take a look.
Elena Rud will be performing on 24 July from 7.15 pm to 8.15 pm on the stage at the exhibition centre in front of the Auditorium.

Jovan is one of the most exciting newcomers in the German-speaking world and is known for a sound that blends classic hip-hop influences with modern grime and boom-bap productions. The rapper from Darmstadt has built up a steadily growing fanbase over the last few years thanks to his prominent flows, confident attitude and authentic style. With his boundless energy, he is the perfect opener for our exhibition stage.
Jovan will be performing on 24 July from 6.00 pm to 6.45 pm on the stage at the exhibition centre in front of the Auditorium.

‘Apple and Potato’ by Nattawan Luanjaiboontam was inspired by ‘Himmel und Erde’, a traditional German dish from the Rhineland, as a way of reflecting on the capabilities of AI.
Apples grow on trees; they represent a fruit from heaven as well as a symbol of knowledge and sin. Potatoes grow in the earth and symbolise roots, ancestors and wisdom. Together, they open up infinite possibilities. Human capacity, however, is limited. By pressing the space bar, the viewer saves the artwork with which they feel a connection. The moment this choice is made, the infinite cycle of possibilities comes to an end.

‘Function Follows Form’ by Avani Vidhani is an adaptive spatial installation in which the physical arrangement of objects becomes a language and a form of expression. White 3D objects are placed on a surface. A camera observes the scene. An AI analyses the spatial composition in real time – interpreting distances, density and structure – and subsequently generates visual content that is projected directly onto the objects and the surrounding space.
In doing so, the installation reverses Louis Sullivan’s fundamental architectural principle: here, it is not function that determines form, but form – shaped by the visitors’ decisions – that determines all.

‘Flower Garden’ by Arina Bekar is a series of oil paintings and augmented reality experiences that arise from memory and sensation – not from the direct observation of nature. The works depict neither flowers nor water in a documentary sense, but seek to capture a feeling: the warmth of the light, the stillness of a summer moment, and that quiet richness inherent in a moment before it passes.
When viewed through a smartphone camera, the paintings reveal an additional layer of colour, light and atmosphere that extends beyond the canvas into the surrounding space. No app is required for this – scanning the QR code next to each work opens the experience directly in your browser.

PopCult translates the hypnotic visual language of pop culture into the digital realm. Through repetitive geometric shapes, vibrant colours and glossy surfaces, our contemporary consumption of images merges with our primal instinct for luminous and fascinating objects. Can pop culture become an addiction?

Drawing on a personal experience – her grandmother’s funeral in a coastal town in Iran – Meral Dasht’s photographs explore how carpets are imbued with the symbolic weight of a life drawing to a close. They preserve traces – of footsteps, encounters, celebrations. With death, they often lose their meaning, are forgotten or disappear.
The work is a reflection on presence and loss, on life that lives on not only through bodies but through the things that are left behind. The title of this work is inspired by the Persian poet Omar Khayyam.

*Where I Was Standing* by Ghulam Abbas Khan Soomro is a photographic series accompanied by site-specific soundscapes, each recorded at the exact locations where the photographs were taken. The work explores moments of observation, presence and distance through everyday scenes.
Whilst the photographs appear calm, still and carefully composed, the accompanying soundscapes offer a different experience. They are based on original recordings of the respective locations and have deliberately been left in their raw form, with ambient sounds layered over them. This creates a subtle atmosphere of unease and disorientation. Rather than merely documenting a place, the sound evokes an emotional mood that alludes to what remains unseen or unspoken.

*A Sky That Follows Me* by Semina Israt is an ongoing photography and drawing project that transforms the everyday sky into a space for imagination, reflection and storytelling.
Drawing on her everyday life, her feelings and her observations of urban life, she creates visual narratives by combining photographs of the ever-changing sky with hand-drawn figures, animals and imaginary creatures.
In this way, the sky becomes a canvas for emotions that are difficult to put into words – playful, comforting, fearful or marked by uncertainty. Animals symbolise empathy, trust and emotional connection, whilst the fantastical forms reflect the invisible stresses and encounters of urban life.

The podcast *Hinter der Fassade* was produced as part of an interdisciplinary collaboration with architecture students from TU Darmstadt. These entertaining discussions focus on architecturally interesting buildings and locations in the Rhine-Main region, such as the Spitzbunker in Darmstadt or the underground labyrinth in Oppenheim. The content was provided by the architects, whilst students of Sound, Music and Production BA produced the podcast across seven fascinating episodes. All episodes can be listened to on site.

As part of a two-year research project between Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and the European Space Agency (ESA), teaching staff and researchers from the Faculties of Media and Computer Science are investigating how people in extreme living and working environments — such as in isolated habitats in space — can be supported by intelligent tools and environments to act sensibly, safely and autonomously.
At the faculty of Media’s exhibition, the team of professors, PhD students and students is presenting an initial outcome of their work: an AI-supported communication and work tool that bridges the gap between astronauts, Mission Control and those back home on Earth.
On display is a new system whose interface adapts to the situation and which is supported and shaped by a personal assistant (AmI-EE). At the exhibition, the installation offers an introduction to life with AmI-EE in the habitat during a lunar mission.

14:00 – 17:30 Forced Meditation
On the one hand, the primeval forest offers insights into the beauty of our natural world; on the other, it also harbours dangers lurking behind every tree stump, inducing a constant state of stress – similar to what many of us subconsciously experience in our everyday lives, be it in big or small ways. How welcome would a break to catch our breath be? We don’t want to force you, but…
18:00 – 21:30 Gossip Dance
Immerse yourself in a night in early 1990s Berlin and explore a time of new beginnings, uncertainty and the desire for connection. Behind the doors of a club, a world of encounters, rumours, hopes and unspoken fears unfolds. Every step leads to a different story and opens the door to new encounters. What remains is a personal glimpse into a generation that was searching for its own space.
Whilst the Campus Cinema is still on its summer break due to refurbishment, this year we’re screening a fine selection of student films in a pop-up cinema format. Between each film, there will be short discussions with the filmmakers or cast members.

A rare opportunity to see the portable fulldome (a dome cinema) from the international Media Cultural Work study programme in action: films are screened in 360° format within the immersive (all-round) projection environment, which is reminiscent of an oversized igloo. Many of the works produced in the “Soundscape & Environmental Media Lab” at the faculty of Media have already won awards and promise a novel cinematic experience.
The following films will be screened:
1 In-Between
by Anastasiia Tunkevich
Production: Magdalena Filkova, Alexandre Ferraz, Livia Tice, Vianey Cancino
Caught between the real world and purgatory, the protagonist is confronted with his memories. Seeking atonement for the sins he has committed, tormented by visions and illusions, he faces the darkness – alone. Will he survive this trial by fire?
2 Tomorrow I’m Alive
by Ekaterina Mayskaya
Production: Sadaf Awan, Karolina Filatova, Mariam Stepanyan, Hassan Khozaima, Ekaterina Matveeva
A woman, fleeing the war, struggles with her traumas. She wavers between reality, hallucinations and memories.
3 The Peace Will Come Tomorrow
by Alban Tufa & Javid Akhmedov
This experimental short film follows two international students in Germany through a seemingly ordinary day. Their everyday lives become a metaphor for human existence and invite the audience on an intimate emotional journey through the past, present and future.
4 Zero Time Moment
by Daria Dolmatova
Zero Time Moment emerged from the experience of emigration. A sense of disorientation, physical uprooting, languages that fail to connect, and bodies that cannot find rest. Here, fear takes on a circular, habitable form.
5 Visible (Within)
by Laura Pachon Beltran
The fulldome becomes an immersive space of experience, shaped by interaction, perception and attention. Using motion capture, tracking and distorted visual fragments, the work explores how meaning is selectively constructed within a contemporary media environment.
6 The Space in Between
by Md Shahadat Hossen
Swim through a sea of cultures in search of a sense of home. Through an immersive visual language, the protagonist moves through landscapes, each of whose surroundings reflects a different phase of this inner metamorphosis.

13:30 – 16:00 RIP in Pieces
16:30 – 19:00 Zurück
Leaving and being left behind. Whether of our own free will or by chance, we all have to endure the in-between. We are in a state of constant transition. Have you ever been in a familiar place – and something just felt wrong? In ‘Back’, visitors step into the role of people who have returned, exploring their old, abandoned home and rediscovering forgotten memories.
19:30 – 22:00 Evolve & Conquer
Explore, develop, conquer! Guide your civilisation with wisdom and strategy across the legendary island of Y’Therûm. Discover resources and prove yourself the rightful ruler of the eternal paradise.
Room 14.29
13:30 – 16:00 Scythe ‘n’ Dive
You wake up on a cold marble floor, surrounded by deep red rivers. From the flickering light of the torches, projectiles appear, sent by the Devil himself to send you to hell. Listen carefully to the direction the attacks are coming from, dodge them and thereby delay your fate long enough to immortalise yourself as a legend on the leaderboard. You won’t be controlling your character with WASD or a controller, but with your own body in a real room.
14:00 – 17:30 World Dragon
A long time ago, a dragon was shattered. What remains of it continues to slumber across four worlds, strung out like the vertebrae of its spine stretching through the room. Each element is a world you can touch, and right at the very end, in the darkness, there is a box you cannot see into.
Even before you touch anything, something alive senses you. It sniffs out your hand, stirs half-awake, whispers. The sound envelops you in the room. The dragon takes you seriously. And has forgotten you the moment you’re gone. The sound is created live from our own recordings. You aren’t listening; you are being heard.
18:00 – 21:30 Fischer
Imagine you’re standing on a boat, out in the open sea. Lurking beneath the surface are not just harmless fish or exotic rarities. The waves are rising; the radio on the boat crackles nervously. The current is bringing life-threatening sea creatures such as sharks and whales into the fishing grounds.
The crux of the matter: anyone who greedily casts their line blindly risks certain death. Every decision requires the perfect interplay of careful listening, timing and tactical risk assessment. Only those who keep their ears open and avoid the danger zones will survive to the end.
For the third time, the team behind Artist Alley is hosting an event at the Media Campus. Students and friends will be selling their handmade artworks here, such as stickers, portraits, crocheted items, small art pieces and much more. Be sure to pop in and enjoy the stalls, which are full of intricate details, and the bustling atmosphere.

What does it mean to feel truly alive?
At this year’s Alive Festival, five immersive journeys invite you to explore this question in a deeply personal way. Experience stories that blur the line between reality and imagination.
- Step onto the threshold between life and death – through the thoughts of a man caught between two worlds.
- Lose yourself in the magic and mischief of a summery fairy dream.
- Forge an unusual connection with a mysterious creature deep within a hidden cave.
- Journey through the different stages of a person’s life and discover the moments that shape us.
- Step into a supermarket where nothing is for sale – and yet all can be won.
Each of these journeys offers a different perspective on what it means to be alive. Your answer awaits you.

Elena Rud navigates a world of outbursts, despair and self-deprecating humour. In their songs, the Munich-based indie band explore mental health, body positivity and queerness, wrapping it all up in danceable new wave indie with a punk-infused 80s vibe.
The charm of Elena’s prominent, raw voice takes centre stage in this pop music in the style of the latest German wave. Her shows are self-assured, empowering and like an open therapy session on stage. Let’s take a look.
Elena Rud will be performing on 24 July from 7.15 pm to 8.15 pm on the stage at the exhibition centre in front of the Auditorium.

error is a German-language indie-pop act who straddles the roles of poet, critic, person affected by social issues and outsider.
