We need to know your language level. The Language Centre will place you in the appropriate level based on the courses you have previously attended. If you have not yet completed a German course at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, you must take an online test provided by Deutsche Welle via https://learngerman.dw.com/de/placementDashboard
Once you have applied, we will try to find a place for you on a course that is appropriate for your test results. However, there is no guarantee of a place. If you have applied via my-hda, please send the form with your test results directly afterwards to german@h-da.de
The form can be found here: https://sprachen.h-da.de/fileadmin/language centre/Bilder/Deutsch/Latest News/WS_2026_DaF_Online_Test_Deutsche_Welle.pdf
If you have applied via my.h-da, please send the form with your test results to german@h-da.de within the enrolment period. (No screenshots of the results!)
Entry requirements for courses B1.2/B2.1: Successful completion of the B1.1 exam at the hda Language Centre or presentation of a language certificate at B1 level.
Entry requirements for course B2.2: Successful completion of the B2.1 exam at the hda Language Centre or presentation of a language certificate at B2 level.
These courses are aimed at h_da students on the Master's in Electrical Engineering, Erasmus+ students and international students on English-language degree programmes at the university.
Course dates: 8 September – 30 September 2026, daily from 8.30 am to 11.45 am
Enrolment period: 1–31 July 2026 via https://my.h-da.de
Some levels will likely be held online. All courses (both online and face-to-face) will conclude with a written exam held in person on 30 September 2026! For course levels A1.2/A2.2/B1.2/B2.2, there will be an additional oral exam on 29 September 2026.
Applicants who have not yet successfully completed a GFL course at h_da must also complete a German online test by Deutsche Welle and submit the results via german@h-da.de. You will find the link to the test in the attachment. This rule also applies if your last GFL course was a long time ago or if you are skipping levels (between A1.2 and B1.1). The deadline for submitting the form with the results is the end of the registration period.
After the enrolment deadline, applicants’ entry requirements will be checked and the final course offer (tailored to demand) will be determined. If you are only interested in an online format, please let us know by sending an email to german@h-da.de (in addition to registering via my-hda). If we do not hear from you, we will assume that both formats are acceptable to you. You will be informed by email in mid-August whether you have been allocated a place on a course and whether it will be held online or in person on the Darmstadt Campus.

Since March 2022, the Language Centre has been offering a new self-study programme for German as a foreign language (CEFR reference framework: A1 to C1), which interested students at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences can register for.
Licences are issued free of charge. Please note: This offer is free of charge for you – but not for us. We pay for it! If we see that you are not making use of the licence, we must remove you from the course and you will not be able to obtain another licence later on.

The study schedule is flexible, but you should plan for at least 6 working hours per week. The licence for a complete level is valid for 6 months.
