(NO) CONNECTION: Media art experiments for a new way of living together

Media Faculty News International Media and Cultural Work Events International Media, Culture and Work Events

An exhibition by students, graduates and guests of the Master’s programme in International Media Cultural Work (IMC) at the h_da Media Campus, in collaboration with the Museum Schloss Fechenbach in Dieburg.

Connection rarely arises straight away. It is shaped by distance, language, memory and by technological systems that promise closeness, yet often give rise to new forms of separation. (No) Connection – Media Art Experiments for a New Way of Being Together is based on this tension: the desire for community on the one hand, and the phenomenon of disintegration and fragmentation in mediatised environments on the other.

The exhibition brings together media art works by students and graduates of the Media Campus at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences in Dieburg. On display are participatory installations, sound art, audiovisual environments and immersive formats that explore how relationships emerge through fragments, gestures, voices, memories and shared spatial experiences. The exhibition addresses themes such as identity, migration and collective memory.

The exhibition focuses on the shift from mere observation to active participation. Visitors are invited to listen, move, interact and respond. In this way, they become part of dynamic situations that evolve through their presence. Connection is not merely depicted; rather, it is temporary, conditional and arises through interaction.

Dieburg Young Talent Award for Media Culture

At the end of the exhibition, the City of Dieburg will once again award its Young Talent Prize for Media Culture to the most outstanding media artworks in the exhibition. In addition to the assessments of a four-member jury, exhibition visitors can also vote for their favourite work. Their votes account for 40 per cent of the overall assessment. The winners will be announced by the Mayor of Dieburg, Frank Haus, during the exhibition’s closing event on 12 July at 3.00 pm.
