AlertHub – Warning Communication Knowledge Network
AlertHub – Warning Communication Knowledge Network
The European research network AlertHub is investigating how warning and crisis communication can be improved in the context of extreme weather events. Through collaboration between the academic community, meteorology, civil protection and practitioners, the aim is to pool knowledge and translate it into concrete recommendations for action.

In light of increasing extreme weather events resulting from climate change, the EU-funded research network AlertHub is investigating how warning communications can be made more effective in the event of a crisis. AlertHub brings together researchers and practitioners from across Europe and works in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner to strengthen societal resilience.
Project overview
The steadily growing network is based on cooperation and knowledge transfer: it brings together existing research, connects experts from different disciplines and develops practice-oriented recommendations. The network has partnerships, amongst others, with the EU’s Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network and will be continuously expanded until 2028.
The project will be carried out in several stages:
- Establishment of an open knowledge platform on early-warning systems and practices in Europe, including the legal and political framework.
- Identifying best practices and developing governance recommendations, taking into account different risk cultures.
- Development of new formats for knowledge exchange and networking between researchers, public authorities and other key stakeholders.
Aim of the project
The aim of AlertHub is to strengthen societal resilience to crises and to improve early warning and crisis communication in the long term.
