Healthy FDM
Healthy FDM
The GesundFDM project supports the development of professional research data management in the health and care sciences. At its heart is a community platform that provides training, standards and opportunities for researchers at universities of applied sciences to exchange ideas.

In the health and care sciences – including health sciences, therapeutic sciences, nursing sciences and health-related Social Work – research data management (RDM) has so far played a minor role. Although these disciplines are almost exclusively based at universities of applied sciences (HAWs), there is often a lack of established structures and expertise in the handling of research data. This significantly hinders the re-use, quality assurance and long-term availability of data.
Project Overview
In the GesundFDM project, several universities of applied sciences from Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia are collaborating to establish a community platform that will serve as a central information and communication hub for researchers in these disciplines. The platform is used to identify discipline-specific needs – for example, through user stories – and to develop concepts for training and guidance & support services. These are aimed at researchers as well as students and people in the early stages of their PhD studies.
Furthermore, drawing on examples of best practice, common standards, guidelines and recommendations are being developed to ensure that FDM is carried out in a manner appropriate to the profession. In parallel, collaboration with professional associations, data centres, the NFDI4Health consortium and regional initiatives on research data management is being expanded.
Objective
GesundFDM aims to systematically establish and professionalise research data management in the health and care sciences. In addition to establishing technical and structural foundations, the project aims in particular to promote interoperability with the national FDM community – for example, within the framework of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). In the long term, this is intended to significantly improve data quality, availability and reusability in these disciplines, which are of great societal relevance.
