First-year student induction and mentoring at onkomm

For first-year students on the Online Communication programme, there will again be a range of events and a mentoring programme run by students from higher years in 2026.
A wide variety of formats and opportunities will also help, at the start of the 2026/27 winter term, to ensure that first-year students on the Online Communication study programme settle in as smoothly as possible and get to know the university, the Media Campus and, of course, their fellow students and the study programme well.

Please note: This post will be updated regularly right up until the start of the semester!

Mentoring Programme

The mentoring programme begins even before the start of the academic year. Senior students volunteer to look after the new students: in small groups, the new students get to know one another, have any questions about starting their studies answered and, if they wish, the groups can meet up for a coffee or a pub crawl. First-year students who would like to take part in the mentoring programme should please register at onkomm-mentoring@h-da.de.

Official Welcome and Induction Events

There are traditionally several events to welcome and introduce first-year students. Here is an overview:

  • Tuesday, 6 October 2026, from 10.30 am – open end: First-year welcome event at the Media Campus in Dieburg
    From 11.00 am, the welcome event for all first-year students in the faculty of Media will take place in the canteen. Meeting point for onkomm students: from 10.30 am in front of the canteen on the Media Campus
    Afterwards, there’ll be games and fun on the programme – and a chance to explore the Media Campus. The Media and Business student councils are organising a campus rally, followed by a term party.
  • Wednesday, 7 October 2026, from 12.00 pm: Premiere – The official first-year induction at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences
    This welcome event for all first-year students at h_da begins at 12.00. The meeting point will be added before the start of the semester.
  • Monday, 12 October 2026, 10.00 am to approx. 3.30 pm: Welcome to #onkomm
    This day is all about settling into the Online Communication study programme! You’ll get to know the other first-year students, and of course the teaching staff too. You’ll also receive important information about your first semester in onkomm, as well as a guided tour of the campus and the library
  • Tuesday, 13 October 2026, 9.00 am to approx. 11.00 am (online event https://rooms.h-da.de/r?room=onkomm): Tools and systems
    How does course enrolment actually work (hint: it’s very relaxed in the first semester), where can I view my timetable and marks, and where can I find course materials? And, of course: how do we communicate within the study programme? In this session, you’ll receive an introduction to the most important tools and systems for your study programme.
  • More events in the first week of the semester are still to come!!

Start of courses

For first-year students, courses begin according to the timetable on Monday 19 October 2026. For students in higher semesters, courses begin from 12 October 2026.

  • Enrolment period

    1st semester: Tue 13 Oct 26, 10.00 – 19 Oct 26, 12.00

    Groups will be allocated; enrolment for lectures will take place jointly as part of the introduction to the systems.

    3rd semester, 7th semester: Tue 29 Sep 26, from 12 noon – Wed 7 Oct 26, 12 noon

  • Late enrolment: Thu 8 Oct 26, 12 noon – Wed 14 Oct 26, 12 noon

  • Exam registration: Mon 23 Nov 26 – Fri 24 Jan 27

    Please note that you must register for the examination via OK. In the event of repeated withdrawal or withdrawal from a compulsory registration, a medical certificate from a public health officer must be submitted.

  • Information session for 3rd-semester students on the compulsory placement in the 5th semester: online, digital venue to be announced: 1 December 26, 4.00 pm
  • Winter holidays: Mon 21 Dec 26 – Fri 08 Jan 27

  • End of modules

    1st + 7th semesters: Fri 5 Feb 27

    3rd semester: Fri 22 Jan 27

  • Onkomm final exams: 4 February 2027, 2.00 pm, HuA

  • Exam period:

    Phase 1: Mon 7 Feb 27 – 19 Feb 27

    Phase 2: Mon 22 March 27 – Fri 26 March 27

  • Submission periods for BA projects (summer semester)

    Submission of the concept outline to your preferred supervisor: Mon 11 Jan 27

    Please note: The registration form, signed by both the candidate and the supervisor, must be sent to the Examination Office (a digital version is sufficient); the abstract is for the supervisor’s use only.

    Registration with abstract: Thu 4 March 27

    Regular completion period: Mon 5 April 27 – Mon 28 June 27, 12 noon
