Projects

Enable students to plan joint cooking get-togethers easily and efficiently

A study project by Larissa Blam and Eileen Wirsing
2nd semester, 2025
Supervising lecturers: Andrea Krajewski and Torben Toepper

Problem

Today’s student: having just moved out of home, with no money, no car, and a part-time job at the weekend.

This leaves hardly any time to socialise with fellow students. The few social gatherings that do take place – such as a weekly cook-along – present enormous hurdles: organisation, preparation and travel by public transport, with every detail having to be thought through right down to the last minute, even by the participants themselves. Meanwhile, they are already stressed by the day-to-day demands of student life. Even when they do manage to take part, communal cooking is severely limited by inadequate facilities and a lack of kitchen equipment at the university.

Solution

This is precisely where our DOLYO project comes in:

We help students take their first steps towards a self-determined diet. DOLYO offers a combination of services – including interactive organisation, kitchen hire and a delivery service – thereby making it much easier to take part in a so-called ‘DoLu’ (Thursday Lunch).

Unlike traditional food delivery services, DOLYO takes into account the multi-faceted process of cooking together: users can vote online with others for the dish of the week, order ingredients according to the recipe, and view an overview of past and upcoming cooking sessions. The necessary ingredients can be selected from a range of shops – whether organic or budget-friendly. Deliveries can be tracked, and delivery drivers can be rated, just as on popular delivery platforms. The option to book a kitchen also allows for more efficient cooking and tidying up – for example, by using a dishwasher instead of the usual sinks at the university.
