The problem
Political discourse is currently in a tense and often polarising state. Whilst digital media theoretically offer more opportunities than ever to participate in social debates, the quality of these discussions is increasingly suffering. On social media platforms in particular, a number of problems can be observed that make constructive dialogue difficult.
A key problem is the lack of respectful interaction. Discussions often quickly become emotional, unobjective or disparaging. Personal attacks, sweeping generalisations and stereotypical views of the ‘enemy’ frequently take the place of nuanced arguments. This tone not only leads to frustration, but also deters many people – particularly young people – from taking an active part.
Our solution
RE:THINK was developed to respond specifically to the challenges of the latest political discourse. The aim is to create a space in which young people can discuss political issues openly, respectfully and in a structured manner – regardless of their background, views or experience.
Unlike unmoderated digital platforms, RE:THINK offers a clearly structured format with binding rules for discussion and expert moderation. This ensures that discussions remain objective, that different viewpoints are heard, and that there is no place for personal attacks or destructive behaviour.
In this way, RE:THINK offers a concrete response to the polarisation, lack of objectivity and overwhelming nature of political discourse that many people experience, and creates new entries into a healthy culture of debate.
In this way, young adults can learn to tolerate differing opinions, to question their own views and to argue constructively. In doing so, they develop a better understanding of political contexts and strengthen their ability to engage in dialogue respectfully and openly.
The website
Our website simulates the experience of the RE:THINK registration and feedback process. On the homepage, users can get a brief overview of the services we provide; they can then click their way through the registration process to simulate a registration.
Once they have done this, they can also click their way through a simulated feedback form and complete it as they wish.
These two processes are essential to RE:THINK. When registering, every user must agree to a set of rules drawn up by us, which lay down the ground rules for productive discussion. Furthermore, the feedback form is important to us as it enables us to stay in close contact with our target audience and to adapt our services over the long term.
Our product video
In the following video, we show you how RE:THINK might work. This product video was created to visually present our format once again and to give users an idea of what RE:THINK might look like in practice.
