Practising technique – but how do you gauge your progress?
In football training, there is often a lack of individual, immediate feedback. Particularly in small-group exercises such as one-two passes, it is difficult to assess technique, timing and understanding of the game in real time and make this tangible for players. Coaches are often busy with several groups of players at the same time, and access to personalised coaching remains limited. Yet it is precisely precise movements and body awareness that are crucial for sporting progress.
The idea: When technology becomes audible
The central idea is to sharpen individual body awareness during one-two training sessions using real-time auditory feedback. The aim is to help players use direct feedback to reflect on and improve their playing behaviour independently, regardless of whether a coach is watching at that moment or not.
“Senseplay” combines football training with auditory feedback and digital analysis. It translates movements into sounds, allowing players to experience both good and bad actions directly, without being distracted or having to rely on a coach. In this way, the one-two becomes a musical mirror for self-reflection.
The system consists of three core components:
- Playermaker sensors on the boots, which provide precise movement data in real time.
- A speaker vest that plays sounds directly onto the shoulders without blocking out the surroundings.
- A web app that visualises performance data, identifies errors and highlights progress.
Successful actions, such as a controlled first touch or a precise one-two, produce harmonious chords (e.g. D major, E major). Errors, such as excessive contact time or a mis-hit ball, are reflected by dissonant notes. The training is thus enhanced by embodied, musical feedback – making it tangible, audible and interconnected.
