Tilt: A VHS-inspired horror game
Tilt: A VHS-inspired horror game
A project by Colin Drobek
Supervised by Prof. Dr Frank Gabler
Project completed in Semester 6 | Summer 2025
Tilt is a VHS-inspired horror game that uses a custom Arduino controller for its gameplay. The project links physical movements and real-world light interactions to actions within the game.
The controller offers several ways to interact with the game. Tilting the controller is used to move, whilst shaking it is used to run. The torch also utilises a physical interaction: instead of activating it via a conventional button, the player shines a real light onto the controller, which activates the torch in the game.
The game combines its VHS-inspired horror aesthetic with physical controller interactions. This makes the custom controller an integral part of how the player interacts with the game, rather than simply serving as a conventional input device.
The project demonstrates how an Arduino-based controller can link physical actions to gameplay. Players must tilt, shake and use a real light as part of their interaction with Tilt, linking the physical controller directly to the game’s controls.
