Binaural 3D Animated Short: ‘Spring’ by Blender
A new soundtrack for the animated film "Spring" in binaural 3D
Produced as part of the NGA Elective, by Frederik Herre and Tim Lindemann, 6th semester, 2020
Supervising lecturers: Prof. Felix Krückels and Dr Jorge Enrique Medina Victoria
As part of the ‘Next Generation Audio’ elective – ‘NGA’ for short – Frederik Herre and Tim Lindemann re-recorded and mixed an excerpt from the animated film ‘Spring’, released by Blender, as a 3D binaural production during the summer semester of 2020.
In the animated film, the girl ‘Spring’ and her faithful four-legged companion ‘Autumn’ set off together into a mysterious forest to uncover a breathtaking secret.
The ‘IEM Ambisonics Plugin Suite’, published by the ‘Institute for Electroacoustic Music and Acoustics Graz’ (IEM), was used for the 3D sound recording and mixing; this enabled 3D mixing to be carried out easily within Cockos’ Reaper.
3D productions offer a first glimpse into the future of ‘audio’ in the entertainment industry and are therefore an essential component of the ‘Next Generation Audio’ elective.
