Cresc.Olive

Projects

Cresc.Olive is a controller that, thanks to the accompanying learning software,

provides an easy introduction to sound engineering.

Supervising lecturers: Prof. Dr Kyrill Fischer, Prof. Thorsten Greiner, Prof. Dr Jürgen Schwab

The Cresc.Olive controller, when used in conjunction with the learning software, helps you get to grips with mixing desk techniques whilst learning even more about sound engineering.

The learning software is freely accessible and can be supplemented by Cresc.Olive, as users can interact with the controller within the learning modules. To begin with, the structure of a channel strip is explained.
Throughout all the units, you have the option to press the ‘Let’s get nerdy’ button to
gain more specific knowledge on the latest news topic.

Cresc.Olive itself highlights individual elements to show you what you’re currently operating, guiding you through the topic.

Getting started in sound engineering is difficult because there are hardly any resources to help people work out where to begin learning and exactly what they’re dealing with at the mixing desk.

Using a simplified diagram of a mixing desk and the accompanying text, you’ll begin to understand the functions so that you can react quickly in everyday live situations when you hear yet again: ‘The bass drum’s sticking to the speakers!’

Using the parameters explained earlier, the signal flow is illustrated through practical examples, in which your knowledge of phantom power, polarity and so on is put to the test.

Cresc.Olive is a fully-fledged MIDI controller that remains useful in any DAW even after you’ve completed the learning modules. A key feature is its modularity, thanks to which various modules (e.g. fader and encoder modules) can be used to complement the master module.
