Drax Power is a playable synthwave track in the form of a 3D first-person shooter.
The world of the 80s is in danger! A corporation is attempting to seize world domination with evil robots. Step into the shoes of Drax Power and save the world – because what he lacks in brains, he more than makes up for with his muscles and his laser shotgun!
The project is based on Unity’s FPS microgame, which we used as a starting point but have heavily modified and expanded. To bring the game to life, we used the Wwise audio middleware, which has once again impressed us with its limitless possibilities. Implementing 3D audio in game engines is therefore no problem either: various plugins can automatically convert signals into binaural audio based on their position relative to the virtual listener.
In our project, we explored the possibilities and workflows of interactive and 3D audio in video games. Games – and shooters in particular – benefit greatly from the improved localisation of binaural audio and the immersion provided by 3D ambience. A distinctive feature of the game is that the music sets the pace of the action. Enemies only fire in time with the music, and traps only snap shut rhythmically.
Put on your headphones and experience 3D audio!
