Interactive 3D Sound Escape Room

A project by René Hegewald, Victor Keilhack and Jonas Meyer, 4th semester, 2021
Supervising lecturers: Owi Mahn, Michael Rieker and Prof. Thorsten Greiner

You’re locked up. But you’re not alone. A disembodied voice wants to help you escape, because it has only one goal: to make you happy.

A thrilling escape game featuring varied auditory puzzles and an innovative insight into the meaning of happiness.

In this thrilling escape room, the puzzles focus on immersive 3D sound. Ambisonics is used to create new soundscapes to help solve the escape room challenges.

Inspired by Pravoslav Sovak’s painting ‘Once’ (1967), the game was developed using the Unity game engine. All audio tasks are handled by Max/MSP, which enables a more realistic reproduction of 3D sound.
