What is FreQuent?
FreQuent is an additive synthesiser. It consists of a hardware controller and a (software) plug-in. It generates 1 fundamental and 32 overtones as a general basis. These can be manipulated in various ways. As yet, this is nothing new. We have, however, tried to add a few features that have never been seen before. In doing so, we aim to make additive synthesis an innovative experience and hopefully inspire users to create sounds they would not normally think of (or, rather, create).
What’s so innovative about FreQuent?
With the help of the built-in ‘radar’, you can scan the environment around you. This will alter the sounds coming out of the device. Essentially, you’re analysing what the room you’re performing in sounds like, including all the people and objects within it. This adds a ‘social’ aspect to live electronic music performances, as the audience can alter the way the music sounds simply by moving around the artist.
