The short film “The Spiral” symbolises the emotional impact of the spoken word, the information overload we are exposed to every day, and the latest news that moves and affects us.
The spoken word is one of the most important means of communication in today’s world. The creative interplay of language with sounds, noises and music can evoke powerful emotions. I wanted to bring this emotional impact to life in the short film “The Spiral”. The use of language plays a particularly significant role in politics and news reporting, which is why I have focused on political quotations.
The visual material was based on the 2009 documentary film “Home” by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Individual film clips were re-edited, then re-scored and mixed in binaural 3D using the IEM Plugin Suite in Cockos’ Reaper.
The aim here is not to provide a realistic, documentary-style representation of auditory scenes, but purely to create the overall effect of the work. I have therefore worked predominantly with metaphorical and symbolic sounds.
