What’s it all about?
We tell quirky football stories from the Rhine-Main region. In doing so, we aim to present a variety of perspectives. This means: different clubs (e.g. Eintracht Frankfurt, SV Wehen Wiesbaden), different topics (e.g. fan culture, violence in football, interviews with players). All our stories focus on regional football. Our aim is to appeal to football fans in the local area and share unusual stories with them. However, in some cases we also want to highlight socially relevant issues, such as ‘violence in football’. In this way, we also produce content for the general public.
Implementation:
As a group, we discussed which potential topics we would like to explore. It soon became clear that it would not be possible to cover all the topics this semester. Therefore, each group member chose a key area, whilst ensuring there was not too much overlap. For our research, we looked for people who were relevant to our topics. After that, we worked quite independently – in other words, everyone carried out their own research. The presentation formats were mostly chosen to suit the topic, although we also wanted to try out a few different formats (e.g. podcast, feature, commentary).
➔ How was the whole project carried out – in terms of content: topic selection, research, presentation formats; and in terms of organisation: how was the work organised within the group and across the teams?
Outcome of the project:
Our website features articles on fan culture – for example, about an ‘ultra’ from Wehen Wiesbaden or a family who are passionate supporters of Eintracht Frankfurt. We have also produced a series of articles on the topic of ‘violence in football’. It focuses in particular on the referees’ perspective, first in an article and then in a commentary. During the project, we were able to explore how independent research is carried out and how it is developed into an article. We also gained important insights into the editing process – such as how it works and what to look out for in particular when editing texts by other editors.
