Online journalism

Project work

The Online Journalism study programme is structured around a strong focus on projects.

  • During the Bachelor's study programme, students work on three major semester projects, some of which involve renowned partners from the industry.
  • The Bachelor’s theses address latest topics in media studies and media practice.
  • The lecturers, in turn, contribute to the advancement of media studies through their involvement in research projects.
Teaching newsrooms

The teaching editorial teams provide a realistic simulation of a newsroom environment. Students take on various roles, ranging from editors-in-chief and reporters to social media editors and web designers. The finished projects include, for example, multimedia blogs, social media accounts and print magazines.

Radio Funkloch

In this interdisciplinary course, students regularly produce programmes for the Media Campus’s campus radio station. Working in several teams, the students are responsible for on-air design, editorial processes, social media and technical aspects. Students can borrow the necessary equipment for their programmes from the Media Campus kit room.

Laboratories

In the second semester, students carry out their first project in the laboratories: they design their own website and publish articles on various topics. This often involves setting up an accompanying Instagram account to complement and expand on the blog.

Teaching Newsroom

The teaching editorial teams simulate real-life editorial environments. Students take on various roles, ranging from editors-in-chief and reporters to social media editors and web designers. The finished projects include, for example, multimedia blogs or feature articles.
