What’s it all about?
Tabubreak shines a light on issues that are rarely discussed openly:
drug use, homelessness, sexuality, poverty and more. We want to
– honestly, directly and in a way that connects with people.
The focus is on the social relevance of taboos and their impact on
people’s behaviour: What effect do they have on us? How do they influence our
thinking, our behaviour and our everyday lives? In a media landscape dominated by political headlines
, we want to create space for what is
is often neglected – people themselves!
Implementation
We identified our main and sub-topics together as a team, based on
personal interest and social relevance. Following extensive research,
, we opted for various formats for each topic, such as feature articles
and interviews. We organised the website by dividing up the work and working in close collaboration.
Outcome of the project
What sort of articles have been written, for example?
For example, there is an interview with a urologist. He explains why urology
is a particularly difficult topic for young people. In addition, our
reporter visited Luisenplatz in Darmstadt to speak to a
homeless man. Why homelessness isn’t really a
taboo subject for him and what, in his view, needs to change politically and socially
. And: What is the process like between a breast cancer diagnosis and
recovery, and what challenges are involved? A woman affected by the disease
explains.
What lessons have been learnt from the project work?
The preliminary research takes up a lot of time. Tasks must be
and then carried out. Communication plays
a crucial role. The website, in particular, had to be designed in a consistent manner
. That was a bit tricky at first.
