Online communication

Study #onkomm

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Online Communication (#onkomm) is interdisciplinary and practice-oriented. You’ll learn how to shape digital communication – drawing on a broad range of subjects including business, communication studies, sustainability, pedagogy and technology. Your study programme is as flexible as your interests: choose your own key area and hone your personal profile.

Here’s how your online communication study programme works

A solid foundation, practical projects and plenty of freedom: with #onkomm, you can tailor your study programme to suit you and prepare yourself for the future of digital communication.

Your study programme is divided into seven semesters: during the first three semesters, you will acquire a solid grounding in all areas of digital communication. You will then have three semesters to develop your own specialism – from online marketing to sustainability communication. In the fifth semester, you’ll put your knowledge into practice before completing your study programme with your own research project in the final semesters.

The diagram provides an overview of the programme structure:

In #onkomm, you’ll learn about relevant topics from a wide range of disciplines. You’ll explore the economic aspects of digital communication, delve into communication studies and pedagogy, and examine issues relating to sustainability and technological development. This diversity provides you with the ideal preparation for the ever-changing world of digital communication.

From the very first semester, you’ll be working on real-world projects and building your network within the industry. Many of our teaching staff have direct industry experience and will provide you with valuable insights into the latest developments – whether in companies, agencies or NGOs. The practical semester in the fifth semester enables you to apply your theoretical knowledge directly in a professional setting.

Whether you’re managing social media channels, developing marketing campaigns or creating multimedia content – you’ll learn to work with the latest tools and technologies. These practical skills will equip you for the job market and are in high demand across many sectors.

As well as the technical content, #onkomm places great emphasis on your personal development. You’ll learn to work as part of a team, think creatively and act strategically – skills that will prepare you for successful careers.

The fifth semester is entirely devoted to practical experience. During a full-time work placement, you will put what you have learnt into practice and build valuable professional contacts. In the final two semesters, you will focus on your specialisation and academic work, and develop your own research project and Bachelor’s thesis.

Trends and technologies such as AI, virtual influencers and innovative content formats are continually being integrated into the study programme. You will learn how to utilise these developments in your projects and to continuously develop your skills in a dynamic professional field. This will enable you, for example, to optimise the user experience in your projects as effectively as possible, whilst also contributing to a company’s digital transformation.

You can also study Online Communication as a dual study programme. You’ll follow the same course of study, but at the same time have a training contract with a company. You’ll work there during the lecture-free periods and during your practical semester, but you’ll receive a training allowance throughout the year. Further information will be available soon.
