Sound, Music and Production BA

The Sound, Music and ProductionBA study programme at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years. From traditionally media-oriented study programmes, it has developed into a key player in the transfer of knowledge between artistic practice and technical innovation. This growing significance was particularly evident this year at the Tonmeistertagung in Düsseldorf, one of the most important industry gatherings in the German audio and studio scene.

A highlight was the panel discussion on loudspeaker development, moderated by Ingo Weismantel. He was able to bring together leading figures from the German development and manufacturing scene for this event. The session combined technical depth with an approachable atmosphere and attracted a large number of interested attendees.

Another focus of professional interest was a particularly ambitious project within the study programme: the development of its own studio monitor. The innovative loudspeaker system was presented at the h-da stand and demonstrated live. Ingo Weismantel documented the monitor’s development history – which stemmed directly from the course modules – in detail in an article for VdT magazine.

Furthermore, the Tonmeistertagung offered several graduates of the study programme the opportunity to present their theses and engage directly with trade visitors. The keen interest in the projects and the active exchange of ideas underscore the study programme’s high relevance to the professional audio world. At the same time, this opens up valuable opportunities for students to forge important professional contacts whilst still on the study programme.

The Sound, Music and Production BA study programme can thus look back on a successful appearance that further cements its standing within the professional community – and demonstrates how closely practice-oriented teaching and innovative research are linked at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
