Programme
The Master's programme in International Media Cultural Work (IMC) consists of three foundation semesters and, depending on the student’s academic background, may include an internship: Applicants with a 7-semester undergraduate degree or a postgraduate degree study for 3 semesters, whilst candidates with a 6-semester Bachelor’s degree must complete an internship before their final Master’s project.
The overall curriculum strikes a careful balance between compulsory modules (Transdisciplinary Media Cultural Projects/TMCPs) and the programme’s optional modules (Electives).
The international Media Cultural Work programme strongly encourages the combination and integration of theoretical knowledge with practical strategies.
Whilst the project module of the IMC programme focuses on integrating theoretical knowledge, cultural concepts, technological methods and managerial strategies, the elective courses (Electives) open up numerous opportunities for a more in-depth exploration of strategies and research. Electives in the field of ‘Curating and Communicating’ are complemented by electives from the field of ‘Management and Technology’, thereby fostering the student’s individual profile and employability. The final semester is dedicated to the student’s Master's project or thesis.
Team-based, transdisciplinary and intercultural
Transdisciplinary Media Cultural Projects form the core modules of our Master's programme. They are compulsory and carry 15 CPs. Knowledge is not imparted through traditional lectures, but is conveyed under the supervision of a transdisciplinary team of expert tutors, specialising in the fields of media and cultural discourses, curatorial and communication approaches, project development and practical implementation, as well as cultural management and public relations. Numerous lectures and workshops led by renowned media and cultural experts complement the project work.
Each semester, students carry out media and cultural projects (e.g. exhibitions, workshops, educational programmes) in teams of four to ten students. Students with different skills acquired during their undergraduate studies work closely together in these teams to contribute their knowledge, methods and experience to the project. They learn strategies from other forms of media and culture and develop transdisciplinary skills.
Elective courses
Elective courses complement the project work. They cover cultural discourse and critique, curatorial, communication and educational strategies, audience development, as well as leadership methods and innovative concepts from the perspective of cultural management and economics, media and cultural institutions, technology and media arts.
By choosing six electives (three per semester), you can create your own specialisation and profile. You can choose from two different elective catalogues:
